A typical conversation.

Client: Hi, is this Nono?

Me: yep (slightly irritated i have to answer the obvious)

Client: My name is _______. I am creating an app. I saw your work and I really like it.

Me: _____ , did you see my rate? I want to make sure we are clear on that. (curtly)

Client: yah, not a problem. I am looking for someone just like you. I am forming a team of the best. I have not seen anyone who gets it. and I have a revolutionary product that I need some UX design for.

Me: ok (still not interested at this point)…what is your app?

At this point, client tells me just how revolutionary his product is, how they’re absolutely going to rake it in, how they’re going to change the world, that they are well funded, and that I will benefit and that _____ can give me some guidance etc.

Me: ok, when do you want to start.

Client: ok, so right now, we are trying to watch our burn rate, would you possibly consider taking some equity or a lowered rate.

another person on my spam list.

Note: this guy is actually not the worst. Some people call me and start interrogating me as if I called them. They barely make it past their second question.

Some people might wonder how I can act this way when other designers are struggling.

Simple.

because I can.
